* Rank Country Dependency Score Export Share % (year) Mineral Rents % GDP (year)
Methodology: The Blomstra Mineral Export & Rent Dependency Index measures how economically exposed a country is to mineral extraction and exports. It combines two World Bank WDI indicators:
  • Ores & metals exports (% of merchandise exports) – TX.VAL.MMTL.ZS.UN
  • Mineral rents (% of GDP) – NY.GDP.MINR.RT.ZS
Each indicator is normalized to a 0–100 score (clipped at 60% and 15% respectively) and then averaged equally. Both indicators are required – countries missing either are excluded. Observations older than 10 years are excluded to avoid stale data (see excluded panel below).

Methodology: The Blomstra Governance Capture Risk Index measures state-capture risk via four weighted pillars, all sourced from verifiable public institutions — no fabricated or estimated figures: Regulatory Capture (World Bank Worldwide Governance Indicators, 25%), Political Capture (V-Dem Political Corruption Index, 25%), Information Environment (V-Dem Freedom of Expression & Alternative Information Index, 25%), and Public Integrity Safeguards (OECD Public Integrity Indicators — 9 sub-measures spanning lobbying transparency, revolving-door/post-employment rules, whistleblower protection, risk-management practice, and public consultation inclusiveness, 25%). Higher scores indicate greater capture risk. A country missing any one pillar has its remaining weights auto-renormalized; a country missing two or more pillars is excluded entirely rather than scored on insufficient data. Updated weekly. The OECD Public Integrity Indicators pillar currently covers ~53 countries (OECD members, adherents, and key partners) — most countries worldwide are scored on the remaining 3 pillars only, which is expected and shown transparently via the “Pillars” column, not hidden. Within this pillar, the underlying OECD sub-measures are grouped into 6 topics (lobbying, revolving-door/post-employment, public consultation, evaluation transparency, whistleblower protection, risk management) and averaged topic-by-topic before combining — this avoids silently over-weighting topics that happen to have more OECD sub-questions published under them. A fifth pillar (tax/offshore secrecy enablement) is under evaluation pending a verified, unattended-fetch-compatible data source and is not yet included. Full methodology →

Methodology: The Blomstra Geopolitical Risk Index combines three pillars — Militarization (military expenditure % GDP, World Bank/SIPRI), Conflict (battle deaths per 100k, UCDP GED 26.1), and Displacement (refugee outflow/inflow per 100k, UNHCR). Each pillar is log-normalized and weighted: Risk = (Mil × 0.25) + (Con × 0.45) + (Disp × 0.30). Updated weekly. Full methodology →
